Baseball Cards hammer Siloam Springs

FARMINGTON — The Farmington bats struck early and often against the Siloam Springs Panthers on Tuesday, April 15, in a 20-5 victory for the Cardinals.

The Farmington Cardinals entered the contest against Siloam Springs on a two-game winning streak. Farmington reeled off another victory against the Panthers and did so in impressive fashion.

Freshman pitcher Tage Pollard had an impressive outing on the mound for the Cardinals. During the first inning, Pollard got into some trouble and gave up a run. Junior outfielder Kelly O’Brien drove in Siloam Springs ‘ aggressive leadoff hitter Jonathan Hyde to give the Panthers a brief 1-0 lead. Pollard was able to get out of trouble in the first inning and only gave up a run in the process.

From the bottom of the first inning, the Farmington Cardinals started to take complete control of the contest. The Farmington batters exploded in the bottom half of the first inning, Farmington was able to bat around in the first inning and grabbed a 9-1 lead. The Cardinals used a combination of aggressive base running and timely bunts to advance the base runners.

Pollard kept the Siloam Springs batters off-balance mixing his fastball with his off-speed pitching. Siloam Springs’ Aidan Gayler singled in the second inning. Pollard was able to retire the side and bring up the scorching hot Farmington bats in the bottom half of the second inning.

Farmington senior Kooper Beach was swinging a hot bat against the Panthers and connected in the second inning with a double to deep center field. Ayden Lester drove in Beach and the Cardinals tacked on a few more runs to make the score 13-1 at the end of the second inning.

The sportsmanship rule came into play in this matchup. Farmington closed out this contest in the fifth inning with a 20-5 final score. The baseball Cardinals are getting hot at the right time and have the potential to make plenty of noise over the next few weeks.
