Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese Bowman’s Best University Autographed Card Sells at Auction

What basketball at all levels in the U.S. needed but didn’t see coming happened during the 2022-23 NCAA women’s basketball season carrying into the 2023-24 tournament – Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese. The All-Americans captured the nation’s attention breathing life into the college game, men’s and women’s, the WNBA, and the card collecting hobby. Rivals on the court, in the world of sports cards, the pairing is a grail card for fans of the game.

After three seasons of tearing it up on the court, the world knew if Clark stayed healthy all records within reach would be hers, and that is what happened. The four-time first team All-American took the University of Iowa to new heights on a national level while raising the profile of the game. Clark set the D-I career scoring record along with single-season scoring records and most career 3-pointers.

Out of LSU, Reese was carving her own path helping renowned women’s head coach Kim Mulkey win her fourth, first with the Tigers, NCAA Championship. Reese was a three-time All-American, a two-time first team selection (USBWA). During her junior year with the Tigers, Reese set SEC single-season records for double-doubles and rebounds.

Setting up the all-time rivalry in 2023, LSU and Iowa met in the NCAA title game with Reese playing at a championship level notching 15 points, 10 rebounds, and five assists aiding in a 102-85 win over the Hawkeyes. Reese earned NCAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player (2023) honors.

Both women entered their senior seasons as preseason first team All-Americans. With the spotlight on both, they gave fans a show. Perhaps the only letdown of the season was seeing LSU take on Iowa in the Elite Eight instead of the Final Four or even the National Championship Game.

Returning the favor, Clark got the better of Reese and LSU in a 94-87 win sending the Hawkeyes to the next round to face UConn (71-69) before eventually falling to a behemoth South Carolina squad (87-75).

Now forever linked, Clark was taken first in the 2024 WNBA Draft by the Indiana Fever with Reese landing in Chicago with the Sky at seventh overall. Both Reese and Clark would be named to the WNBA All-Rookie Team with Clark earning Rookie of the Year.

In the 2023-24 Bowman’s Best University Best of ’23 set, 15 cards, all 1-of-1, autographs-superfractors were made. Some of the pairings included Aaron Bradshaw and DJ Wagner, Kylan Boswell and Caleb Love, Justin Edwards and Rob Dillingham, Isaiah Collier and Bronny James, and another really valuable card – Stephon Castle and Paige Bueckers.

On April 26, at Goldin Auctions, the pictured 2023-24 Bowman Best University Dual Autographs Superfractor #DACA Clark/Reese 9.5 sold for $7,930 after the buyer’s premium off a $6,500 bid.
