Madison Police to dish out Milwaukee Brewers baseball cards

MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – The Madison Police Department is partnering with the Milwaukee Brewers to dish out free trading cards to kids.

“We are always looking for fun, interesting, and creative ways to build relationships with the community and sports is something that everyone can connect on,” said Lt. Liv Novitzke with the Madison Police Dept.

Lt. Novitzke says the Brewers contacted and asked if they’d be interested in receiving the trading cards to give out to the community. Lt. Novitzke said MPD jumped at the opportunity.

The Brewers sent MPD 5,000 trading cars. The cards are in packets and feature stars like Christian Yelich, Jackson Chourio, and Sal Frelick.

Officers will be able to snag a few packs before they head out the door for their daily patrols.

“And the hope is that they will meet some kids who are Brewers fans they can hand out the cards,” added Lt. Novitzke.

The Brewers began this initiative with the Milwaukee Police Department. After finding success there, the Brewers decided to expand the program throughout the state.

“We have received an overwhelmingly positive response to the revived baseball trading card print program, with departments throughout the state highly interested in distributing in their locales,” said Rick Schlesinger, Brewers President – Business Operations said in a press release. “We look forward to working locally with the Madison Police Department and developing a future generation of Brewers fans.”

The cards have a comic book-style, superhero-inspired look.

“A lot of us at MPD collected baseball cards growing up. Now we get a chance to use an old hobby to connect with kids in our community,” said Acting Madison Police Chief John Patterson in a statement.
