NFL Combine Update with Former Clemson TE Jake Briningstool

INDIANAPOLIS, IN – Jake Briningstool wrapped his four-year collegiate career with Clemson setting school records. The big target matriculated to the college ranks from Brentwood’s (TN) Ravenwood High School as one of the nation’s best tight ends in the 2021 class. Now NFL teams are pouring over scouting reports on Briningstool (6-6, 241) eyeing him as one of the top receiving tight ends in the 2025 draft.

Clemson started utilizing Briningstool in their offense during the 2023 season. Third team All-ACC honors were given to the then-junior after a 50-reception, 498-yard, and five-touchdown season. On his way to a Clemson school record 127 career receptions for a tight end, Briningstool closed out his senior season with 49 receptions for 530 yards with seven big scores posted on the board once again earning third team All-ACC recognition.

“I played for a couple of different offensive coordinators, most recently coach (Garrett) Riley,” Briningstool said. “I think he did a great job using me to my strengths and my skillset. I really enjoyed playing there and playing for coach (Dabo) Swinney. We won a lot of games; it was cool.”

Asked what separates him from other tight ends, Briningstool replied, “Yeah, I think I am a mismatch. I can create mismatches in the passing game. I think I am a vertical threat, and I can make plays with the ball in my hands.”

Briningstool spoke about preparing for the NFL Combine, “I have been training down in Orange County (CA). We have a great group of guys out there pushing each other every single day. Everyone is excited to be here to test. This is the day we’ve been waiting for; I am excited.”

The draft will stir different emotions for Briningstool.

“It will be surreal for sure,” Briningstool shared. “My parents have played a big part throughout my entire process, throughout my entire life; they will be right there with me. It will be a dream come true. I’ve been thinking about this day ever since I picked up a football, and to be this close is a really exciting feeling.”

Projecting ahead to the first few days with his new team, Briningstool said, “I think it will take a couple of days to settle in, figure out where I am going, but I am just excited to go. I’m excited to build new relationships with my teammates and earn the respect of my teammates and my coaches. I think it will be a super cool experience and it is something I am looking forward to.”

Fans will not be the only ones holding onto Briningstool’s rookie cards.

“It will be sweet,” Briningstool shared. “That is one of those tangible items I will be able to hang onto and something that will mean a lot to me in a couple of years. It may be something small now, but it will be something that I look back on and realize how cool it was in the moment.”
