Northeast Sports Card Expo draws collectors to Portland for rare finds and nostalgia
PORTLAND, Maine (WGME) — It’s the biggest sports card and memorabilia show in Maine.
The Northeast Sports Card Expo kicked off Saturday in Portland.
The event features new and old sports cards, sports memorabilia, and plenty of other non-sports collectibles from 225 vendors at the event.
One person, Josh Grudi, told us he enjoys the event because it allows him to stay connected to the sport he grew up playing.
“You know I played baseball growing up, and nowadays I don’t play so much baseball in my 30s, but I think it’s still a way to like keep in touch with the game that I grew up loving,” Grudi said.
“Really, that Mickey Mantle card is the most iconic card in the hobby, even people that don’t know about cards, they know that card is important. They were not very many of them made, a large percentage of the ones that were made were dumped into the ocean, so there’s not too many floating around,” James Scherer, a “numismatist,” said.
The event continues into Sunday, running from 9 until 4.
