Some relics provided by card manufacturers have more meaning and value beyond the price tag. When Topps included Roberto Clemente in their 2022 set Tier One Limited Lumber, one lucky person truly got the card of a lifetime.

The set of Tier One Limited Lumber cards as a whole is amazing. Some of the lucky pulls within included Bo Jackson, Babe Ruth, Bryce Harper, Derek Jeter, Cal Ripken Jr., Don Mattingly, David Ortiz, Ernie Banks, Fred McGriff, Eddie Murray, Frank Robinson, George Brett and many-many more – 198 in total.

One does not have to be a Pittsburgh Pirates fan to have love and appreciation for Clemente. Easily one of the best to ever play the game with 15 All-Star selections in 18 seasons, Clemente had a lifetime .317 batting average coupled with 3,000 hits.

Born in Puerto Rico, Clemente was on a private plane carrying relief goods to earthquake survivors in Nicaragua on Dec. 31, 1972, when his plane went down off the coast of Isla Verde, Puerto Rico, taking his life at 38-years-old.

Because of whom Clemente was and what he meant to the game, the National Baseball Hall of Fame changed their rules from five years after a player last played a game to six months after a player was deceased to allow immediate admission into their hallowed halls.

The 2022 Topps Tier One Limited Lumber used the barrel of Clemente’s bat with a picture of the right-handed batter at the plate – forever young and forever in our hearts.

There are different versions of the Clemente Topps Tier One, but only one that shows the actual barrel. The other parallels featuring Clemente were Legend Relics /50, Legend Relics Dual Path /25, and Legend Relics Triple Patch /1. The Legend Relics range in price from $75 to $200 while the Dual Patch goes from $125 to $300. The Limited Lumber has not been solid in a public setting to establish financial value.

Back on the greatness of Clemente on the field, he was a two-time World Series champion (1960, 1971), World Series MVP (’71), NL MVP (1966), 12-time Gold Glove winner (1961-72), and four-time NL batting champion (1961, ’64-65, 1967).
